Equality has been at the heart of our co-op values since Chelmsford Star Co-op was formed over 150 years ago, so there was no doubt about our involvement at Essex Pride once again this year.
With hate crime for the LGBT community reported to have increased in the UK by 144% in the last few years, there is still very much a need for events like this, to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in what is becoming an increasingly divided country.
Essex Pride was able to balance the important messages with a fun day out for all the family, with competitions, games and some big names in music and entertainment.
Our travel team were on site, this year with a competition offering a free week of accommodation at the luxury Temptations Resort in Cancun, Mexico. Those enjoying the day flocked to our tent to get in on the action, and to receive some free co-op food goodies.
Stephanie Giarnese, from our Chelmsford Travel branch, said;
It’s been a wonderful day, meeting all sorts of people and their families, even their dogs! It was lovely to see so many youngsters being joined by their parents to Pride too.”
