Germany
When people think of Germany, they don’t necessarily think of forest landscapes, mountain ranges and beaches, which is a bit unfair as they have plenty of each. A third of the country is forested for a start.
Most travellers head to capital, Berlin, for its famous art and nightlife, and to see leftovers from the second world war. Some head to Munich, for beer halls, Christmas markets and Oktoberfest. The more adventurous may make it as far as Frankfurt, where the skyscrapers of a modern metropolis meets the olde worlde buildings of a historic town.
Many come to Germany for the romantic castles, of which there are thousands, including Neuschwanstein in Bavaria – the inspiration for Walt Disney’s famous logo. Or for the music; famous for both its classical music and futuristic techno, you’ll find something you'll love to listen to somewhere. Or for the food and drink; Germans are quite adventurous in their culinary tastes, but have plenty of old favourites too. And you won’t find better beer anywhere.
All in all, we think Germany is vastly underrated, and would highly recommend a visit. The people are warm and welcoming, the scenery outstanding or charming, transport around the city is fast, efficient and clean, and there is something on offer for everyone – no matter what kind of holiday you’re after.
