Canada by rail
September 19, 2019

With unforgettable scenery, some of the warmest and most welcoming people you’ll ever meet, and a couple of truly cosmopolitan cities, Canada has everything you could wish for. Due to its vast size, many people find that the best way to experience this magnificent and sprawling country is by rail.

For a lot of people, Canada is right up there in their list of places they’d love to visit. The world’s second largest country (yes, that’s right!) spreads all the way from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean, and destinations are as diverse as the bright lights of Toronto to the national parks of the Canadian Rockies.

Taking a train is a wonderful way to see some of what this country has to offer. With comfortable sleeping cabins, dining cars with rolling scenery as you enjoy a meal or wine, you’ll find few voyages that are as relaxing, sociable or as memorable. The Co-operative Travel works with a wide number of tour operators, so we have all sorts of Canadian train journeys available for you, but what would be best for you?

What about a coast-to-coast tour, perhaps taking in Halifax in the east to Vancouver in the west over a number of weeks? Perhaps a winter holiday in Toronto would suit you better, before crossing a fairytale landscape of frozen lakes and snow covered mountains to visit remote communities or nearby cities?

There are all sorts of natural highlights to look out for when travelling in Canada; from the Niagra Falls in Ontario to the Rocky Mountains along the British Columbia-Alberta border, whilst Vancouver is renowned for its beauty thanks to its position between mountains and the Pacific ocean. Meanwhile, visit Hudson Bay in the Autumn to spot migrating polar bears, or Quebec in the winter for carnival season. Foodies will want to head to Toronto’s Kensington Market, whilst art-lovers will appreciate the galleries of Ontario. Skiers will want to head over between December and April for the best snow coverage. One visit will definitely not be enough, but it will be enough to make you fall in love with the country.
